Sam Shepard Evening
by Sam Shepard and edited by Kristina Sutton

SYNOPSIS
Poignant moments and ridiculous scenarios come together in what can only be the surreal style of Sam Shepard. “Curse of the Starving Class,” “Fool For Love,” “Buried Child,” and “True West” reveal American family life is not a Norman Rockwell painting.

Four highly acclaimed plays dealing with the myth of the All-American family and the pursuit of the American dream are featured in the Sam Shepard Evening. Contemporary and controversial issues addressed include America’s current debt problem, the animalistic attraction of incest, sibling rivalry, and buried family secrets. A dash of alcoholism, love and violence round out the evening. Filled with recognizable symbolism and metaphors, the characters’ economic struggles are struggles to attain the American dream. Characters’ yearning for food to nourish them are actually yearning for family to nourish them. “Curse of the Starving Class,” “Fool for Love,” “Buried Child,” and “True West” offer a dynamic evening intense with drama and shocking revelations.
