Flowers For Algernon

SYNOPSIS
Science has discovered a cure for mental retardation! It’s been found to work flawlessly on laboratory mice and is believed to be ready for human experimentation. But is a cure for mental retardation such a wonderful thing? Follow the life of Charlie Gordon, the mentally retarded patient who is “volunteered” for this completely experimental operation, as he discovers what the world is truly like for the retarded and the genius.

Charlie Gordon is a friendly, loveable mentally retarded adult who is unwittingly volunteered for a highly experimental operation that will make him a genius. Is it really a scientific breakthrough or just a case of Dr. Frankenstein creating another monster? We follow Charlie as he’s promoted in his job at the bakery, in front of the men who’ve worked there for years. We watch as he learns about love for the first time in his life and struggles with past memories that he never had to deal with as a retarded adult. We experience Charlie’s pain and confusion as the world appears to slowly turn against him until, finally, he can’t seem to understand anything that’s happening to him anymore. Faced with a grim realization of the future Charlie begins to set things right in his life and the life of those he loves, while there’s still time. “Flowers for Algernon” is a timeless love story about acceptance that will hopefully give you a more positive outlook on life.
